Preston begins his column by telling the audience that it has been more than 40 years since Maryland won a national championship. He states "The streak will continue until the Terps find some outstanding offensive players." Here he has a judgmental tone as he adds his critical opinions about the goal scorers. Preston compares other attackman from Denver such as Zach Miller, and Connor Canizzaro and refers to them as "Alpha males" then he compares the attackman Matt Rambo as "not consistent enough" and simply just "fits into system." Preston critiques Rambo's persistency and strength by comparing him to players from Denver, who beat Maryland in the championship 10-5. Preston's reason for his column is to try and stop the constant losses and change something up, he does this through his satiric tone , to try and teach the offensive side to be smarter on the field. Preston also identifies the weaknesses such as Joe Locascio who was stripped of the ball and turned it over to Denver for the tie-breaking 6th goal. He adds the athletes mistake to try and make the point that there just needs to be an offensive player with a high Lacrosse IQ. Preston's judgmental at satiric tone is just an attempt to make tweaks and fixes to the "goal makers" so that they will end the offensive struggle and end the title drought.

TonePreston's tone is satiric, he shows that the weakness ― the attackman, who have not been doing their job are the reason for the "title drought." Preston calls them out, so that hopefully they take the constructive criticism and turn it into goals.
